It was cumbersome at first, and took up huge amounts of digital space. But it has improved dramatically recently. And now that audio is beginning to come of age, more and more publishers are offering publications in audio and text format. But to create audio and embed it into ebook format there's a lot to learn, and equipment to buy. Not a Newbie job to say the least!
So the commonest and easiest way is to create an audio file, plus an additional eBook containing the transcribed text of a Course, Interview or Seminar. This is a great concept because it allows us to listen to the author and read his/her written word simultaneously. And studies have shown that substantially higher information retention rates are achieved when both text and sound are combined.
Not only that - it's easier and more fun to either read, or listen, or do both!
If only it were that easy!
We are dealing with human nature here. And that means logic sometimes does NOT apply! Because the problem then of course, is that the reader has to load and open up an ebook, then load and open an audio player, then load the audio file or CD. Then activate the audio and use their trusty mouse to scroll down the screen to keep the text perfectly synchronized with the sound.
Unfortunately this requires a fair amount of concentration and eventually becomes tiring. So we often choose to just listen, or print out the text and read it later - maybe:-)
